Honourable Vice President of India inaugurates Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences

The Honourable Vice President of India Shri. M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated the Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences at Krea University on 08 September 2021. The official inauguration event was hosted at Raj Bhavan in Chennai.

Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences aims to promote scholarship in the humanities and social sciences. The centre commemorates the life and legacy of veteran freedom fighter, Member of the Constituent Assembly, the Provisional Parliament two-time Rajya Sabha MP, Shri. Moturi Satyanarayana. Dr Mahesh Rangarajan, Vice-Chancellor of Krea University explained, “While aligned with and integral to Krea’s larger vision and mission, Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences aims to create a centre of academic excellence. The scholarship, exchange and dialogue within and by the centre will help promote a vibrant intellectual milieu both within and beyond Krea.”

Speaking at the inauguration, The Honourable Vice President said, “Today I commend the management, staff and all those associated with this momentous milestone in Krea’s journey synonymous with quality education in Humanities and Social Studies. Named after the eminent son of India, Shri. Moturi Satyanarayana, I am certain this centre with its academic rigour and quality will be a transformative and engaging hub of teaching and learning.” Watch the inauguration here.

Dr Mahesh Rangarajan delivers a special address at the XVI International Conference on Public Policy and Management
The Centre for Public Policy (CPP), at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIMB), inaugurated the XVI International Conference on Public Policy and Management with a special address by Dr Mahesh Rangarajan, Vice-Chancellor, Krea University. In his address, Dr Rangarajan spoke about the role of public policy in India in the context of extreme events like the pandemic, climate change and ecological shifts. His address featured the story of 'Amul' and how it paved the way for India’s White Revolution, contributing to the economy and impacting future policies. Watch his speech here.

Krea University at the 5th Annual IC3 Conference

Krea University participated in the 5th Annual IC3 Conference as the event’s official Technology Partner. With 900 global delegates, the conference featured collaborative dialogues on education and career counselling practices for the graduates of tomorrow. The pre-conference activities included multiple panel discussions and workshops conducted by Krea’s senior representatives Kala Anand (Director - Partnerships and Career Services), Bhakti Shah (Director - Outreach), and Meenu Arora (Assistant Director - Outreach), elaborating on Krea’s interwoven curriculum, the unique admissions process, and future careers and workplace.

Navigating the career maze: A Krea workshop with industry experts and students
In an effort to bridge the gap between K-12 and higher education, Krea University organised an exclusive workshop for school leaders, educators and counsellors. The workshop featured six industry experts, student panels, and a special case study presentation by Krea’s Career Services Office (CSO). With 162 attendees, the 2-day workshop focused on debunking career myths and sharing why educators need to ‘prepare to prepare’ the young graduates of tomorrow. Industry speakers comprising senior representatives from Minfy Technologies, The George Institute for Global Health, London and Partners, Artery India, Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, and IDFC Institute, shared their insights on what skills they look for while hiring young talents.

On resilience and the future workplace with World Bank’s Sunil Kumar
In an interactive session with the students of IFMR GSB, Sunil Kumar from the World Bank Group shared his expert insights on what the future workplace looks like in light of the pandemic and changing work models. Focusing on workplace resilience, Sunil Kumar narrated the story of World Bank Group’s action plan from the beginning of the pandemic and their quick adoption to the “new normal”. His session also shared insights on hybrid work models and the new challenges that come along with them. Sharing five skills that students need to work on in an effort to stay resilient, he put an emphasis on ‘winning behaviours’ that ensure devolving job autonomy.

CGIAR Gender Platform commissioned a “mapping” of peer-reviewed evidence on gender in agriculture and food systems from LEAD at Krea University to investigate critical geographic, thematic and outcome-based gaps. Women’s participation in India’s labour force has been steadily declining since 1993-94 and India has one of the lowest female labour force participation rates among developing countries. A study by IWWAGE provides systematic evidence on the country’s gender gaps in employment and labour market outcomes. Since multiple factors influence their decision to undertake the paid market work, this paper tries to unpack the critical aspects of low female labour force participation in rural and urban India. Catalyst Atal Incubation Centre’s six-month incubation program formulates a support system for entrepreneurs and helps them forge pathways towards meaningful impact while enhancing livelihood opportunities among vulnerable communities. The first cohort from this effort consisting of 10 innovative startups in the handicrafts domain participated in the “Demo-Day for Craft Cohort” recently. Advisory members, mentors, partners, local artisans and field experts attended the in-person celebration and recalled various successes of the exciting and eventful relationship, significant outcomes and future plans.

IITM Tech Talk, an initiative of IIT Madras, has featured an important article on essential medicine shortages co-authored by Prof Vijaya C Subramanian (Sundram Fasteners Associate Professor of Management at IFMR GSB). Titled 'Essential medicine shortages, procurement process and supplier response: A normative study across Indian states', the research paper was originally published in the Social Science and Medicine journal. CWP Faculty contribute important chapters for IGNOU textbook

CWP Faculty contribute two chapters for IGNOU textbook
Dr Anannya Dasgupta, Director of the Centre for Writing and Pedagogy (CWP) at Krea University, and Sameer Abraham Thomas, CWP tutorial programme coordinator, have contributed two chapters to a freshly launched textbook on Academic Writing and Composition for undergraduate students. This open-access textbook has been commissioned by IGNOU, an open university from India with over 4 million active students. This very important collection, possibly the first of its kind to emerge from India, brings together the latest pedagogic practices from academics who are experimenting with teaching academic writing.

'Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing' publishes research paper by IFMR GSB professor

Prof Jayasankar Ramanathan, Associate Professor at IFMR GSB, along with his collaborators from IIM Indore have co-authored the paper 'Ethical Marketing Strategies: The Unique Nash Equilibrium' which has been accepted for publication by the prestigious Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing with an ABDC journal rating ‘A’.
