Career Dialogues 2021

Krea University successfully wraps up the first edition of 'Career Dialogues 2021', a 2-day conference featuring industry and academia

Krea University hosted 'Career Dialogues 2021' - a first of its kind discussion series, deep-diving into the interwoven nature of education and the emerging career opportunities it addresses. The dialogue series brought industry, academic and student perspectives, highlighting the opportunities that arise out of an interwoven or Liberal Arts Education in today’s world. The event comprising 10-panel sessions covered a myriad of career progression opportunities in varying subjects including Sciences, Economics, Environment Studies, Psychology, History, Politics, Literature, Arts, Social Studies, Computer Science and Mathematics. The keynote addresses were delivered by Vice-Chancellor Dr Sunder Ramaswamy on the first day, and Mr Glenn RR - Senior Director of Higher Education Partnerships (Global) at Cialfo on the second day.

Some notable speakers included academic representatives from the Canadian International School, Aditya Birla World Academy, CSIR - Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, IDFC Institute, The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Oakridge International School, Mussoorie International School, RN Podar School, Velammal Group of Schools and others. The dialogue series also witnessed active participation from senior researchers and leaders from reputable global organisations such as Google, The Hindu, Tiger Analytics, London and Partners, Centre for Policy Research (CPR), IDFC Institute, CEEW and others. Supported by SAIBSA and Cialfo, the event concluded each day with a student panel, highlighting perspectives from the undergraduate cohort at Krea.

Krea University and Asia Society India Centre hosted an exciting conversation between Dr Vishakha N. Desai - President Emeritus of Asia Society; Senior Advisor for Global Affairs at Columbia University; and Member of Academic & Governing Council at Krea University - and Prof Prayaag Akbar - Senior Fellow, Literature and the Arts at Krea University. Gendered economic impacts and burden of unpaid care work: Learnings from COVID-19

LEAD at Krea University anchored a plenary session along with IWWAGE and SEWA Bharat at the CORE Net Conference, to share learnings from the past year and discuss policy actions for addressing the multidimensional gendered impacts of COVID-19. The panellists - Poonam Muttreja (Population Foundation of India), Deepthi Ravula (WE Hub Hyderabad), Neeta Hardikar (Anandi), Sriraman Jagannathan (Women’s World Banking) and Sumita Kale (Indicus Foundation) - discussed solutions and opportunities for enabling women’s participation in the workforce. Digital solutions for SHGs in Chhattisgarh: Early insights from members of women collectives
Government entitlements are often the primary source of social protection for poor households. With the aim of increasing information about and uptake of government entitlements, and with the support of the State Rural Livelihoods Mission in Chhattisgarh, IWWAGE and Haqdarshak Empowerment Solutions Private Limited are implementing a project on promoting government entitlements through women SHGs as agents or 'Haqdarshikas'. IWWAGE has published 'Intersecting Identities, Livelihoods and Affirmative Action: How Social Identity Affects Economic Opportunity for Women in India', an impactful paper authored by Ashwini Deshpande (Professor of Economics at Ashoka University). Dr Shobha Das, Dean - IFMR GSB at Krea University, will present her paper "Transitional Entrepreneurs in the Gulf: Examining transnational temporary migrant entrepreneurship in Qatar" at a virtual conference hosted by Strome College of Business at Old Dominion University. Adhering to the theme of the conference -- ‘Transitional Entrepreneurship: Entrepreneurship among Veterans, Women, Minorities, Immigrants, Refugees’ -- the paper will be presented next month. Krea student co-drafts whitepaper which makes recommendations for higher education in a changing world!
Arnav Jalan, a second-year Undergraduate student at Krea University, was a member of the global working group of students/alumni who drafted a whitepaper, making recommendations for higher education in a changing world at the Committee on Global Thought (CGT) at Columbia University. The CGT collaborated with Krea University towards their initiative “Youth in a Changing World. As an exclusive India partner, Krea students actively participated and supported the workshop series and research project. Know more here.

Prof Vijaya Subramanian -- Sundram Fasteners Associate Professor of Operations Management at IFMR GSB -- has co-authored a paper titled “Essential medicine shortages, procurement process and supplier response: A normative study across Indian states”. Accepted in the “Social Science and Medicine” journal, the paper analyses the supply chain factors leading to essential medicine shortages in the public health system in India.
