Mahatma Gandhi in today's world

Marking the Mahatma’s 151st birth anniversary, Dr Ramachandra Guha - Distinguished Professor, Division of Humanities & Social Sciences and Padma Bhushan Awardee - gave a special address, where he walked us through 10 reasons why Gandhi matters in today’s world. An energy-packed hour, as Gandhi’s biographer, Dr Guha spoke in great detail about the life and times of the ‘Father of our nation’, touching upon his contributions, philosophy and what makes him relevant, especially in context to today’s political scenario.
The lecturer received a very wide viewership with hundreds tuning in and close to 2000 views on our YouTube Livestream, which can be accessed here.

As part of the #DigitalParliament series organised by Young Leaders for Active Citizenship (YLAC) in partnership with Twitter India, the session titled 'Reviving the Indian Economy' brought together Members of Parliament and leading experts to deliberate on the most pressing issues confronting India in the face of the pandemic. The speakers included Ashwini Vaishnav (MP Rajya Sabha), Rajeev Gowda (Former MP Rajya Sabha), Mekhala Krishnamurthy (Senior Fellow, CPR) and Soumya Kapoor Mehta (Head IWWAGE). Making History an immersive experience
The second in the series of Krea Professional Development Programme - highly interactive workshops to help develop and evolve professional expertise and skills - Prof Aashique Ahmed Iqbal, Assistant Professor of History, discussed different ways to teach history today. He shed light on the latest developments in the field as well as some of the activities which can be used to make learning history an immersive, engaging experience for students.

Strengthening climate finance in India

LEAD hosted a webinar in collaboration with Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation on strengthening access to climate finance in India. The panelists were climate experts from NABARD, Climate Bonds Initiative, Observer Research Foundation, and the Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation. As part of the Krea Engage series, Prof Gaurav Ghosh, in his session titled 'Behavioral Economics & the Modern World', discussed in detail about all the career possibilities that come with studying Economics in today's working world. His session also shed light on why modern-day economists need to think creatively and ideate from multiple disciplines to solve real-world problems. Students with Economics as their major in college were introduced to the range of career trajectories waiting for them in the future.

Dr Jessica Seddon - Global Lead for Air Quality at the World Resources Institute, Research Fellow at Princeton University and Member of Krea University's Academic Council - shared her insights on environmental changes and the challenges ahead. Her session also shed light on findings relevant for the area around Krea campus. The session concluded with an agenda, focusing on institutional environments building new forms of social capital and adapting to growing risks.

As part of the industry engagement series, we hosted Shalini Kapoor, Chief Technology Officer at IBM AI Applications and the first Indian woman Fellow at IBM India. Through a well laid out presentation, she talked about the adoption of AI. She articulated through real-life examples that AI is for all and not just for data scientists.

How DAY-NRLM leveraged SHG's social capital as a response to COVID-19

During the pandemic, DAY-NRLM’s SHGs played a pivotal role in raising awareness about COVID-19 by imparting digital training on risks and prevention of the virus to over 5.10 lakh community resource persons, cadres, and community workers, reaching over 5.35 crore SHG members. Nita Kejriwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India in an article for Economic Times wrote about the role of SHGs in the aftermath of the unprecedented COVID-19 shock. Odisha captures low female labourforce participation rate in India - IWWAGE study

IWWAGE
While India already had one of the world's lowest female labourforce participation rates (LFPR), the latest state-wise trends reveal that in rural Odisha, about 53 percent women workers are self-employed, out of which 72.7 percent work as unpaid helpers in household enterprises. IFMR GSB student wins 2nd place at IEEE event

Siddharth Poddar of the MBA cohort of 2022, recently represented IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) at the Virtual Stock Market Simulation Challenge organised by IEEE Delhi Section during the Global Skill Summit 2020. Siddharth was placed in the second position, competing with students from all over the world in this global event.
