About the event
The 2019 Research Symposium on Finance and Economics organized by IFMR Graduate School of Business (IFMR GSB and formerly IFMR) at Krea University aims to bring researchers, academicians, and practitioners in finance and economics across the globe to present, discuss and deliberate upon emerging issues in finance and economics in contemporary world. IFMR GSB has begun its new journey under the aegis of Krea University, pioneering interwoven learning to ready students for the future, with a strong focus in research. Therefore, this symposium is an important event in the academic calendar of IFMR GSB. The two-day symposium will include pre-symposium workshop, plenary sessions, technical sessions, practitioners’ track, and panel discussions among renowned academicians in the field of finance and economics.
Theme of the symposium
The nature of financial system across the globe underwent tremendous changes post Global Financial Crisis in 2008. The advent of digital finance has further exacerbated the complexity of the way financial system works and has called for newer regulatory norms for corporates and financial markets. On the other hand, the world is witnessing increasing wealth inequality and experiencing the adverse effects of climate change which call for public policies that harness sustainable development. Against this backdrop, the symposium will focus on the following theme “Financial Globalization and Economic Development: Emerging Issues and the Way Forward in Today’s Digitized World” and in the spirit of this theme the symposium solicits submission of research papers under the following sub-themes in the field of finance and economics:
Finance: Emerging trends in Corporate Finance and Governance, Financial Reporting and Regulations, Behavioral Finance, Banking, Digital Finance, Financial Inclusion, Asset Pricing and Financial Markets post sub-prime crisis
Economics: Inclusive growth and development, climate change, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), international trade, employment, and other key issues in public policy making in emerging countries.
The conference sub-themes mentioned above are indicative and research papers on other related topics are also welcome.

Call for papers
The symposium invites original research papers that address gaps in the related literature, offer new insights and evidence, and informs policy making. Both theoretical and empirical papers are welcome. Papers for presentation at the symposium will be selected through double blind peer review process. This symposium is also open to doctoral students who are on the verge of completing their dissertation.

Full research papers with a title page, abstract, keywords, main text, tables, figures, references etc. should be submitted through Conference Maker. Use Times New Roman with 12-point font size and double spaced. For blind review process, all author-identifying information must be removed before submission.
A few selected papers presented at the symposium will be published in Journal of Emerging Market Finance, Sage Publishing.
Best Research Paper Prizes
Three paper best research papers among the papers presented at the symposium will be awarded cash prizes.
A workshop on “Causal Inference in Empirical Corporate Finance” will be conducted by Prof.Radhakrishnan Gopalan (University of Washington) for early career researchers and doctoral students during December 10-11,2019. Participants will have to register separately for the workshop by paying a registration fee as mentioned below on or before Nov 30, 2019. Further details will be shared in due course of time.

Note: The registration fee includes conference kit, refreshments, lunch for two days and conference dinner on the first day. Accommodation (single occupancy) will be provided for free to all symposium paper presenters. Other participants will have to make their own arrangements for accommodation. Limited accommodation (on a twin sharing basis) on the campus at Sri City, India may be provided upon request on a chargeable basis subject to availability of rooms. All accepted paper presenters will be provided transport support (shuttles) from and to Chennai in groups.
