Shobha holds a Ph.D. degree from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota, a PGDM from IIM Calcutta, and a BA (Honours) in Economics from Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University. She worked as a Management Consultant in TCS after graduating from IIMC. After her Ph.D., Shobha has worked at the Nanyang Business School of NTU Singapore from 1994 to 2009, and at Qatar University from 2009 to 2019.

Trained in the case method at the Harvard Business School (PCMPCL program), Shobha teaches undergraduate, masters, doctoral and executive courses in Strategy, Technology & Innovation, Entrepreneurship, CSR & Ethics, International Business and Organization Theory. She pioneered the use of simulation software in teaching Strategic Management in Singapore and Qatar.

Shobha has published her research in top journals such as the Academy of Management Review, Management Science, and Strategic Management Journal. She presents her research regularly at international conferences.
