Prof Sumit Mishra is an Assistant Professor of Economics at IFMR GSB.
He received his PhD in Development Studies and M.Sc. in Economics from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research. His thesis looked into the issue of regional imbalances in Maharashtra. In his thesis, he focused on the constitutional mandate in form of the Article 371(2) and it did not ameliorate regional differences in the state.
His current research examines three aspects of India’s economic development:
The relationship between caste diversity and access to public goods in villages.
The association between segregation and public goods in cities.
The movement from farm to non-farm occupations (structural transformation).

His research interest lies in development economics focusing on issues of public goods and caste diversity, and structural transformation in India.
He holds a PhD in Development Studies from Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research, Bombay.
