Sri City, 10 October 2019:…The Venerable Tenzin Priyadarshi, Visiting Professor of Practice at Krea University, who is also the President & CEO of The Dalai Lama Center for Ethics and Transformative Values at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology addressed the students of the School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences on 10 October 2019. The talk was attended by around 100 students.
Venerable Priyadarshi spoke on the topic “Reimagining Ethics in a New World Order”. He elaborated on the growth of machine learning, artificial intelligence and digital advancements and the incorporation of ethical practices in technologies of the future. He further went on to speak about the how we interpret and practice our ethics and morals in our daily lives.
Arnav Jalan, an SIAS student, had this to say about the talk: “It opened my eyes to the dilemmas and perspectives of ethics. An example that really made me think was when he asked us to choose between two people to save in a road accident – one who was wearing a helmet and one who wasn’t. We would instinctively save a person who has a higher chance of survival, rather than a person who isn’t taking safety precautions and not following the law – questioning ethical standards of society”. Another student, Anuj Jacob said “I really liked how he advocated the stance of altruism by asking us the simple question, What sort of a world would you want to live in?”
An innovative thinker, philosopher, educator and a polymath monk, The Venerable Tenzin Priyadarshi is a Tribeca Disruptive Fellow and a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Study in Behavioral Sciences at Stanford University. Venerable Tenzin serves on the boards of a number of academic, humanitarian, and religious organisations.
