Krea Students participate in rural eye checkup camp

Sri City, August 5, 2019: A free Eye Checkup Camp was organized in collaboration with Read India and Sri City Foundation at Zilla Parishat High School (ZPHS) in Irugulam Village near Sri City on 5 August 2019. The camp was organized by Dr Rangashri Kishore, Dean of Library Services at Krea University, in collaboration with Read India and Sri City Foundation, with Gp Capt P Ramesh, Chief administrative officer and the students of Krea University playing an active role.

Six doctors conducted the eye checkup and monitored blood pressure & sugar levels, before addressing the beneficiaries about eye cleaning and safety tips. Students of Krea University volunteered to distribute the health cards and tokens and helped in recording health details. Around 150 people from the surrounding rural areas were screened, and 50 cases were referred to the Chennai eye hospital for surgery on 8 Aug 2019. The transportation, accommodation and surgery have been arranged free of cost. The follow-up checkup will be conducted after a week and eye drops will be given to the beneficiaries. A final screening will be held after 45 days.

During the eye checkup camp, Gp Capt P Ramesh, Chief administrative officer of Krea University spoke to the rural school children about the armed forces and serving the country. He elaborated on nation building and moral values like respecting nature, honouring teachers, self-discipline, hard work and determination, and also helped with the transportation and arrangements.
