School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences at Sri City today. The 114 students were selected for the first undergraduate class after a unique comprehensive admission process. A weeklong orientation followed, which gave the students a strong grounding in the values of the university and offered them an opportunity to meet and interact with leading achievers from various walks of life. The classes for students commenced on 19th August 2019.
Our unique admission process that goes beyond strong scholastic abilities, ensured a diverse set of students with extra-curricular interests in sports, music, dance, culture, and community service. With a gender ratio of 55:45 (Girls, Boys), the students come from over 18 states of India, with varied backgrounds and interests including student entrepreneurs; budding authors; promising cricketers and swimmers. In keeping with our need blind admission and need-aware financial assistance process, close to half of the class has been offered some form of financial assistance and over 10% of the class are first generation college students.
Dr. Sunder Ramaswamy, Vice Chancellor & Member of the Governing Council, Krea University said “At Krea you will have the opportunity to challenge yourself and create your own path… to essentially forge your own history. With the emergence of artificial intelligence and bigdata we are going to see a host of new jobs which have not yet being invented. We need to educate and prepare ourselves for the jobs and careers which are yet to come into existence. This along with significant advancement in travel and telecommunications and stress on the environment such as resource depletion, increased greenhouse gases, extinction of species will throw up opportunities and challenges where we can make a real difference. I urge you to take advantage of our unique undergraduate programme, put together by some of the finest minds in the world, to not only achieve academic excellence but social wellbeing”.
In his special address, Mr. R. Seshasayee, Chairman, Executive Committee & Member of the Governing Council, Krea University said “The mission of Krea is to develop students into problem solvers. No solution of the recent past has happened because of one person; it was a result of knowledge from different branches coming together to solve the problem. Krea University and its extraordinary pool of talented faculty will instill in you the fundamental curiosity to learn as it is curiosity that will enable you to learn and succeed. You will be guided in analytical and critical thinking to be able to look at the problems around you and find the right solutions”.
In his message to the students through video Dr. Raghuram G. Rajan, Advisor - Governing Council & Academic Council, Krea University said “it has been an adventure for the founders and administrators in creating an entirely new institution and to get it to this point. Learning is an experience which is best enjoyed together. As the first cohort of students, you have a tremendous responsibility to build this institution and its culture. The next generation of students will learn from your experience and from the traditions that you have laid. The best form of education will help you open your mind and think in a rigorous way. It will give you a sense of how you will embark on the process of thinking. That is the only way we can prepare you for a world that is dynamic where the old truths are forever questioned. The challenge of every generation is to figure out what to accept from the previous generations and what to change. You have the benefit of being in a new institution which is a blank slate where you can develop traditions that are important, taking the best from the old as well as creating the best of the new”.
Mr. N. Vaghul, Chancellor & Member of the Governing Council, Krea University, said “education is not what is being taught in the country today. We need to think in terms of reimagining and reinventing education. It has taken 3 years of planning for this University to emerge. Interwoven learning, apart from academic excellence, will teach you to be socially conscious; to know and appreciate your role in society. It is knowledge coupled with experience that is true learning”.
