Dr Guduru Gopal Rao

Dr Guduru Gopal Rao OBE is a distinguished Consultant Microbiologist credited with pioneering major UK public health policies, including the introduction of bedside hand sanitizers and universal screening for antibiotic-resistant organisms. Currently, Dr Rao serves as a Consultant in Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobial Stewardship at the London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust. He is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer within the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. As a clinical academic, his research focuses on infection control and antimicrobial resistance, with more than 140 papers published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Dr Rao completed his medical training at the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, India, before earning his postgraduate degree (MD) in Medical Microbiology from Madras Medical College in Chennai. He is a designated Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists (UK) and was appointed Officer of the British Empire (OBE) in 2009 for services to Medicine.
