A hub for independent and collaborative post-doctoral research across the humanities and social sciences through a range of interdisciplinary projects
The Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences honours the life and legacy of Padma Bhushan Moturi Satyanarayana—freedom fighter, educationist, social worker, member of the Constituent Assembly, member of the Provisional Parliament, and twice-nominated member of the Rajya Sabha. The Centre is supported by the Padma Bhushan Moturi Satyanarayana Endowment, established by his daughter, Sujata Kumar, and son-in-law, Tatineni Prem Kumar.
The Centre fosters critical and innovative multidisciplinary research across the humanities and social sciences. It seeks to be a space for rigorous intellectual inquiry, ethical reflection, and vibrant debate. Through fellowships, conferences, seminars, workshops, and publications, it strengthens Krea University’s intellectual life and contributes to academic excellence.
Since 2022, the Centre has run a postdoctoral fellowship programme that supports new research and dialogue across the humanities and social sciences. The programme has brought together young scholars from fields including history, sociology, politics, environmental studies, linguistics, and development studies, who completed their PhDs in India and abroad. By 2025, eight fellows have passed through the programme, and in 2026 the Centre hosts six fellows. Their publications add to important scholarly conversations within and beyond the university.
The Centre also hosts an ongoing seminar programme on society, environment, politics, and culture, as well as workshops that enrich scholarly exchange and strengthen the university’s intellectual culture.
Director, The Moturi Satyanarayana Centre for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences
Professor Bishnu Mohapatra is the Inaugural Director of the Centre. Under his leadership, the Centre has developed as a space for thoughtful interdisciplinary engagement, fostering research, dialogue, and debate across the humanities and social sciences.
