The Voices of Reason


The debate team at SIAS secured the runner-up position at the National Law School of India University (Bengaluru) in the Novice Debate Category. The team secured first place in the prelims and then went on to qualify for semi finals, won the semis, and made it to the finals. The team consisted of Siya Girisaballa (Cohort of 2025) as the first speaker, Tejas Narayan (Cohort of 2025) as the second speaker, and Sibhi Aravindan (Cohort of 2027) as the third speaker. Sibhi secured the ‘Best Speaker’ award in the finals of the Novice Category. Congratulations team!

Leaders in the Making

Eshita Chaturvedi and Malyaj Jain of IFMR GSB’s MBA Cohort of 2025 recently bagged top honours in the EY Young Leaders Business Case Competition. The team competed with tough opponents and showcased their strategic skills and innovative ideas to solve real-world problems. In the first round, they presented a startup idea focusing on the theme of – building a better working world. After winning the round, they presented it to the EY panel and emerged victorious. The event was held towards the end of 2023.

The Women’s Football Team from Krea University has secured first place at Syminaret’24, hosted by Symbiosis Law School, Hyderabad. The winning team comprised Nanki Puri (Captain), Mishka Katyanyan, Shilpi Rani, Antim Khare, Aakansha Khetan, Nirjala Sharma, and Navya Holla. Congratulations!

IFMR GSB’s PhD Scholar Soumyabrata Basu presented a paper titled Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and Firm’s Cost of Debt: Empirical Evidence from Indian Firms, co-authored with Dr Praveen Bhagawan, Associate Professor & Area Chair – Finance, Accounting and Quantitative Finance, IFMR GSB and Dr Jyoti Prasad Mukhopadhyay, Associate Professor & Area Chair – Economics, IFMR GSB at the Annual Research Workshop on Insolvency & Bankruptcy, organised jointly by IIM Ahmedabad and the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI).

Our four-member Indian Dance Crew from the SIAS, Krea University recently showcased their talents at Riviera, the cultural festival hosted by Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). Led by Pramati Anand, the crew, including Alankrita Krishnan, Siri Jois, and Ananya KV, mesmerised the audience with their performances. While Pramati specialises in Kathak, Alankrita, Siri, and Ananya specialise in Bharatanatyam. The dynamic duo of Alankrita Krishnan and Siri Jois secured the third spot in the duet category. Congratulations!

Success in a Snapshot

Shreya Kabadi, a third-year student at SIAS, Krea University won the first prize in the photography competition at Abhisaranga, the annual fest hosted by the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Sri City. The preliminary online round witnessed 110 participants from various parts of the country, culminating in the showdown at IIIT, Sri City. Shreya expresses gratitude to the Media Lab for their invaluable support.

Health meets equality

Mohammed Hashim, PhD student, IFMR GSB, Krea University presented his paper titled Caste and COVID-19: Exploring Variations in Health Expenditures among Different Caste Groups in India at IISC Bangalore and won the best paper award in the ‘Sustainability impact’ track. The conference was conducted by the Centre for Society and Policy, IISC and India – Japan Laboratory at Keio University, Japan. 

Paper Presentation

Nidhin M, PhD student in Finance & Accounting, IFMR GSB, Krea University presented a research paper titled The Effect of ESG Disclosure on Trade Credit and Working Capital Efficiency at the International Conference on Contemporary Issues in ESG, GITAM School of Business Hyderabad held on 16 and 17 February, 2024. He has co-authored the paper with Dr Vinod Kumar,  Associate Professor – Finance, Accounting, & Quantitative Finance – IFMR GSB, Krea University. They have been selected as one of the recipients of the Best Five Paper Awards at the conference.

At the ‘Zero to One’ pre-seed funding round by the Centre for Entrepreneurship (CFE) at Krea University, Sibling, a mental health platform co-founded by Mitansh Aggarwal and Viney Jain from SIAS, Cohort of 2025, received a grant of ₹1.5 lakh, highlighting CFE’s commitment to supporting projects with significant social impact

The Centre for Entrepreneurship (CFE) at Krea University serves as a hub for students and faculty to explore their entrepreneurial aspirations and turn groundbreaking ideas into reality.

The ‘Zero to One’ pre-seed funding round, a significant event in CFE’s calendar, took place at the Krea University Admin Office on 3 February, 2024, marking a milestone in the organisation’s efforts to support aspiring entrepreneurs.

This event featured a panel of esteemed judges, including Anil Srinivasan, Founder, Kruu, Sathyanarayanan Ramachandran, Associate Professor of Marketing at IFMR GSB, Krea University, and Professor Vijayalakshmi C, Professor of OB & HRM at IFMR GSB, Krea University, who evaluated the finalists’ pitches.

A standout moment was the recognition of Sibling, a mental health platform co-founded by Mitansh Aggarwal and Viney Jain from SIAS, Cohort of 2025, which received a grant of ₹1.5 lakh, highlighting CFE’s commitment to supporting projects with significant social impact. Additionally, all finalists were offered mentoring opportunities by the panel of experts to aid in the development of their businesses.

Besides this, CFE also organises workshops to educate participants and fuel their entrepreneurial passions. These workshops, coupled with networking opportunities, play a crucial role in fostering a vibrant and supportive community of young entrepreneurs.supportive community of young entrepreneurs.
