Why pursue PhD at Krea

Pursuing a PhD in Computer Science at Krea University offers an environment centred on depth, rigour, and close scholarly engagement. The programme is built around sustained faculty mentorship, encouraging students to develop independent research directions while engaging with fundamental questions in computation and emerging computational paradigms. Faculty expertise spans algorithms and complexity, logic and foundations of computing, formal methods, programming languages, mechanised reasoning and proof formalisation, software and cyber-physical systems, and quantum computation and information.

Key research questions pursued by faculty and students include: How fast can problems be solved, and what are the limits of efficient computation? How can we mathematically prove that software and systems behave correctly?

What is the relationship between proofs, programs, and computation? Can mathematical proofs themselves be formalised and verified by computers? And what new computational possibilities emerge from quantum systems?

The department aims to foster an inclusive, encouraging, and relatively non-hierarchical culture, where students are active participants in shaping research discussions and academic life. Its small size and interdisciplinary nature of the university enables close interaction with faculty, frequent collaboration, and individualized guidance. This is complemented by seminars, workshops, and research visits from external scholars, providing exposure to diverse ideas and diverse contemporary research directions.
