Why pursue PhD at Krea?

Environmental Studies at Krea University offers a vibrant, interdisciplinary research environment that equips scholars to address complex scientific, environmental, and societal questions through diverse perspectives and methodologies. Our faculty bring expertise across political ecology, biodiversity and conservation, climate science and policy, sustainability studies, atmospheric and space sciences, pollution studies, and glaciology. PhD scholars benefit from close mentorship, intellectual freedom, and opportunities to pursue cutting-edge research using field observations, remote sensing, modelling, laboratory investigations, and policy analysis. The division maintains active collaborations with leading national and international institutions, providing access to global research networks, advanced research facilities, interdisciplinary collaborations, and opportunities for academic exchange.

With a strong emphasis on scientific excellence, innovation, and societal relevance, scholars are encouraged to undertake independent research that advances fundamental understanding while contributing to evidence-based solutions to contemporary scientific, environmental, and policy challenges. Krea University’s liberal education ethos further nurtures critical thinking, interdisciplinary engagement, and effective communication, preparing graduates for impactful careers in academia, research, public policy, environmental governance, and industry.

Labs and Research Facilities

Environmental Studies at Krea operates and develop remote sensing instruments to study the atmosphere and space.

These are our experimental facilities that are operational, and few others that are upcoming:

Septentrio PolaRx5S multi-frequency GNSS receiver capable of measuring Ionospheric Total Electron Content (TEC).

Septentrio PolaRx5S multi-frequency GNSS receiver capable of measuring Ionospheric Total Electron Content (TEC).

Very Low Frequency (VLF) receiver capable of recording 0 – 24 KHz radio waves as a part of World-Wide Lightning Location Network (WWLLN). We also save spectrum for 15 seconds every minute from which D-region electron densities may be estimated.

Airglow imaging observations using low-cost airglow cameras developed in-house at Krea University. OH airglow imager is successfully developed. We are also working in collaboration with PRL, ISRO to improve the cameras further. This is an upcoming facility.

EZIE-Mag magnetometer capable of measuring geomagnetic field. This is an upcoming facility.
