Why pursue a PhD at Krea?

The History PhD programme takes a holistic approach. The first year foundational coursework is aimed at helping scholars to refine their research gap and explore interdisciplinary connections to hone their method and writing. Faculty members in History have extensive research interests and credentials to guide scholars in their dissertation writing, as well as to meaningfully contribute to academia, research and industry. 

The university also provides graduate scholars a thriving research atmosphere, with regular seminars, access to international academic networks, a fully equipped library, laboratories, and research centres

Research Areas: Early Modern, Modern and Contemporary South Asia 

Specialisations: Transport History, Military History, Colonial state and archives

Research Areas: Premodern South Asia 

Specialisations: Medieval and Early Modern history, Early India, Regional History and Area Studies, Comparative Literature, Religious Traditions and Identities, Indian Ocean and Maritime networks, Money and Exchange, Textual Traditions and Literary studies, Intellectual History 



Research Areas: Art and Material History 

Specialisations: Architectural History, Material and Visual Culture 



Research Areas: World History

Specialisations: Medieval Europe, West Asia and the Mediterranean, Sassanians and Byzantines, Frontiers and Empires, Textual and Numismatic studies



Research Areas: Indian Medieval History and History of Science in India



Entry Requirements

Full-time

  • 30 years and below
  • MA in any Social Sciences Discipline from a UGC recognised institution.
  • A minimum of 55% marks* in HSC, Pre-University Exam (12th grade), UG and PG are essential.

*Please Note: A relaxation of 5% marks or equivalent will be given to candidates who belong to SC, ST, OBC (NCL), PwD, and EWS categories.



Part-time/ FIP

  • 50 years and below
  • MA in any Social Sciences Discipline from a UGC recognised institution.
  • A minimum of 55% marks in HSC, Pre-University Exam (12th grade), UG and PG is essential.
  • 3 years of work experience including probation (if any)
  • NOC from Employer
