The PhD experience is envisioned to align with Krea University’s mission to help humanity prepare for an unpredictable world. It is an experiential programme that encourages scholars to constantly engage with the world around them.
Krea is a budding research institute that has already made strides in the short period of its existence and we see the doctoral programme as a natural progression in this journey. We have already established some high-end in house research facilities. Counting on the strengths of our acclaimed faculty and upcoming high-end research facilities, we are confident that our PhD scholars will make significant contributions to further the horizons of knowledge in various disciplines.
Quantum Optics and Quantum Information (Theory and NV-Centre-based experimental studies)
Specialisations: Quantum Computing, Quantum Sensing / Magnetometry, quantum cavity arrays, quantum phase transitions, and statistical physics, superconducting qubits
Condensed Matter Physics and Materials Science
Strongly correlated electronic systems, low dimensional and geometrically frustrated magnets, Materials discovery under extreme conditions (High Pressure & High Temperature), Biological molecules under pressure, Spectroscopy (Raman and Solid state NMR/NQR down to 4 K), superconductivity
Particle and Astroparticle Physics
Neutrino physics and astrophysics, Beyond Standard Model (BSM) physics, dark matter and dark energy
Raman Spectrometer
The Renishw inVia Raman spectrometer is equipped with a confocal microscope and four lasers (325, 532, 633, and 785 nm), and is capable of rapid, non-destructive chemical and structural analysis, including photoluminescence, polarization-dependent measurements with spectral resolution of <0.5 cm-1, and 3D mapping.
High-pressure Diamond Anvil Cells (DACs)
Two symmetric Diamond Anvil Cells (Almax-Easy labs) facilitate Raman and photoluminescence measurements, as well as synchrotron X-ray diffraction measurements, from ambient to 30 gigapascals.
Heating/freezing stage
Linkam’s HFS600E-PB4 probe stage provides temperature and environmental control from -195 C to 600 C with capabilities for Raman spectroscopy measurements and electrical measurements (4-probe).
NMR magnet, spectrometer and low temperature NMR probe
We have a 300 MHz Bruker Avance Wide Bore solid state NMR magnet with Bruker NMR console with spectrometer and amplifier equipped to handle 1 Kilo Watt power.
We have a custom designed low temperature probe equipped to measure X-nuclei down to 4 K especially aimed to measure NMR spectra, T1 and T2 relaxations in strongly correlated magnets.
High- temperature furnace and synthesis facilities
We have a high temperature Ants tubular furnace equipped to heat samples up to 1400 degree celsius under gas flow, under vacuum.
Diffusion pump with quartz tube sealing station
We have a diffusion pump attached with quartz tube sealing station which can seal quartz tubes under 10-6 mBar vacuum. This facility will be used to synthesis of those magnetic samples where maintaining a particular valence state is crucial.
Along with these we have accessories required to sample preparation under solid state reaction route.
A home-built laser-scanning confocal microscope setup equipped with RF and microwave electronics: This setup is used to perform optical detection of magnetic resonance experiments on the electron and nuclear spins of single and ensemble NV centers in diamond.
