Dr Rebecca Darley, Associate Professor, History, SIAS, has published a book chapter based on her plenary address, presented this week in Vienna at the 25th International Byzantine Studies Congress. The chapter, Byzantium, South Asia and Revenant Romanitas: Rejecting the Post-Roman Worldview, explores the prominence given to so-called ‘ancient Rome’, as opposed to the later Roman Empire (often referred to as Byzantium), in modern colonial projects and post-colonial historiographies.
