Dr Sayandeb Chowdhury, Associate Professor, Literature, SIAS, has published an academic essay in Walking with the Enemy: The Art of Subversive Mimicry in the Post-truth Era (Edited by Gasparavicius, M Toteva and T Williams) which has just been published in the series Rethinking Art’s Histories by Manchester University Press, UK. His essay is titled, The Slapstick State: Politics as Play in a Modified India, which brings together, perhaps for the first time, the often maligned cinematic genre – slapstick- to provide a set of matériel to critique contemporary ‘political performativity’ in India.
