Dr Srajana Kaikini, Assistant Professor, Philosophy, SIAS chaired a panel titled ‘Futures Present Now: Futurisms from Collective Practices in South Asia’ at the conference, Field Notes: Towards Ecological Knowing held at Museum of Art and Photography (MAP), Bangalore on 21-22 August 2026.
Drawing on practices across South Asia, the panel brought indigenous narratives of climate change to the fore—attending to the impacts of development, ecological devastation, and conflict on indigenous communities and their knowledge systems. How might science, tradition, and speculative futures converge to re-imagine more just and equitable ways of being with the land? Other panelists included Sonam Chamling Rai and Sammyang Angdembe Limbu (Yakthung Cho) and Saba Khan (Pak Khawateen Painting Club).
