Krea University embarks on an ambitious faculty hiring plan for 2021-22

The School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) at Krea University has embarked on an ambitious program of faculty hiring for the academic year 2021-22. 

At Krea, we take pride in the fact that our world-class faculty uphold our vision of Interwoven learning, representing the very best their disciplines have to offer in teaching, research, and practice. With successive rounds of hiring in full swing, our increased faculty strength will substantially expand areas of expertise and widen the ambit of our curriculum, course offerings, choice of majors, and research agenda.

As a result of an extensive search, a diverse pool of over 40 new hires in full time and visiting positions are slated to join the SIAS faculty cohort in the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and the arts. They are outstanding teachers and scholars/practitioners hailing from world renowned institutions in Europe, United States, and Asia (including India) in the  disciplines of economics, psychology, environmental studies, computer science, biological sciences, physics, chemistry, mathematics, social studies, politics, literature, and the arts.

Here are some of the new faces we will encounter in the coming year:

In the process of realising our aim of providing a world-class undergraduate education, we will continue to hire faculty and teaching fellows in all the above areas, more than doubling our current strength.

Raghu Sundaram joins Krea University Academic Council

Krea University is delighted to welcome Prof Raghu Sundaram to the Academic Council.

Raghu Sundaram is Dean of New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business, where he is also the Edward I. Altman Professor of Credit and Debt Markets and Professor of Finance. He previously served as Vice Dean for MBA Programs and Online Learning for two years.

Raghu works in many areas of finance including agency problems, executive compensation, corporate finance, derivatives pricing, and credit risk and credit derivatives. He has also published extensively in mathematical economics, decision theory, and game theory. His research has appeared in leading academic journals in finance and economic theory, as well as in several practitioner-oriented journals. He is the author of two books: A First Course in Optimization Theory (Cambridge University Press, 1996) and Derivatives: Principles and Practice (McGraw-Hill, 2010).

On joining Krea University as an Academic Council member, Raghu said, “In today’s change driven world, it’s important to adapt, evolve and experiment. Along with my eminent colleagues in the Council, I envision a more vibrant and globally relevant learning experience at Krea which in turn empowers graduates to lead the change.”

Raghu has taught courses across Stern’s Undergraduate, MBA, PhD, and Executive Education programs. Of all the awards he has received over the years, he is most proud of being the inaugural recipient of Stern’s Distinguished Teaching Award in 2007. He has a long record of service to the School and the University, including as chair of the University’s Faculty Senators Council and as a member of NYU’s Presidential Search Committee in 2014.

As Dean and Vice Dean, Raghu has led the launch of multiple new degree programs, including two one-year MBA programs, a number of specialized master’s programs, and the extension of the School’s New York City-based Executive MBA program to Washington, DC. He initiated and has overseen Stern’s entry into online education and the establishment of several new, high-profile initiatives at the intersection of entrepreneurship and technology, notably the Endless Frontier Labs. He also established the School’s first Office of Diversity and Inclusion.

Prior to joining NYU Stern in 1996, Raghu was on the faculty of the University of Rochester from 1988-96. He holds a BA in Economics from the University of Madras, India, an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and a PhD in economics from Cornell University.

Rajiv Memani joins Krea University Governing Council

Krea University is delighted to welcome Rajiv Memani, Chairman, CEO, EY India as a member of the governing council.

Rajiv Memani has over three decades of experience in the industry, advising fast-growing Indian entrepreneurial and global organisations establishing or expanding their presence in India and with private equity funds. Under his stewardship, EY has grown to be over a 50,000 people strong company in India and consistently been recognized as the country’s leading professional services organisation.

On joining Krea University as a governing council member, Memani said, “The industry has a pivotal role in advancing higher education through direct involvement in shaping the future generation of graduates. I am honoured to be a part of Krea University’s vision to re-imagine education for the 21st century and align with their efforts to make quality higher education equitable and accessible.”

Rajiv Memani is the Chairman and CEO of EY’s India region that includes Bangladesh. He is also a member of EY’s Global Executive Board as the Chair of Global Emerging Markets Committee.

Rajiv is active with many clients, principally fast-growing Indian multinationals and private equity funds. He has successfully advised clients across disciplines and has been working with several of the largest conglomerates in India.

Rajiv is a member of the National Council of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in addition to being the Chairman of its National Committee on Tax. He has been appointed in several high-powered Government of India committees, including the most recent, Ministry of Finance taskforce that drafted a new Direct Tax Code in 2019.

Rajiv is also a Board member of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Sirmaur, one of India’s premier management schools.

With his deep commitment to giving back to the society, Rajiv has been the driving force behind EY Foundation for the last 15 years. Under his leadership, the Foundation has positively impacted millions of poor families through sustainable and scalable programs in the areas of education and rural empowerment.
