Title of the talk: Individual versus Group Morality: the Role of Information

About the Talk: A rise in the number of moral individuals in a group can hurt the morality of the group’s collective action with unexpected consequences for the powerless. We argue that this may have nothing to do with the standard arguments leading to non-cooperative distortions. We then characterise strategic environments and models of morality where this is true solely because, after all, individual morals are private information. We then study the role of pre-play communication in mitigating such distortionary effects.

About the Speaker: Dr. Jaideep Roy is a Professor of Economics at the University of Bath. His research interests include Game Theory (with applications to Auctions, Contracts and Bargaining), Information Economics, Political Economy, Voting, Committee Design, Development Economics and Economics of the Media. Dr. Roy has published in leading journals including the American Economic Review, Games and Economic Behavior, Economic Theory, and the Journal of Development Economics.
