About the Series
The Krea Distinguished Lecture Series, proposed by Professor Nirmala Rao, Vice Chancellor, Krea University addresses current issues in world politics to promote local, national, and global engagement among the student body. Upcoming lecture themes include international humanitarian law, water and environmental security, challenges of climate change, war and forced migration, refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), and the future of global governance. The lectures will be delivered by a diverse range of academics and practitioners, offering Krea students an invaluable opportunity to connect their academic studies to real-world issues and engage with leading experts. The series will be convened by Sherman Teichman, Emeritus Founding Director of The Institute for Global Leadership at Tufts University (1984-2016).

About the Talk

The second lecture of the Krea Distinguished Lecture Series will examine the ethical, legal, and regulatory challenges faced by nations and the global banking sector in an era of transnational finance. Using case studies, regulatory frameworks, and industry analyses, the lecture will explore issues such as money laundering, corruption, and tax evasion. Special emphasis will be placed on the ethical responsibilities of financial institutions, regulatory compliance requirements, and the role of international cooperation and coordination in combating financial crimes. It will also address strategies for enhancing transparency, accountability, and integrity in the global banking system, while balancing the imperatives of financial innovation and economic growth.

About the speaker

Jack Blum is a Research Associate at the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS). He is a graduate of Bard College and Columbia University Law School. He has worked as counsel to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and chaired a United Nations Expert Group on Asset Recovery. His research interests include corporate limited liability, international tax evasion and avoidance, government corruption, money laundering, and financial crime.
