Krea University welcomes you to the most anticipated event of the year, Convocation 2025.
The Convocation ceremony will be held on Saturday, 14 June 2025 at The Music Academy, Chennai.
Convocation provides the occasion to celebrate the achievements and potential of our extraordinary graduates as they look forward to life beyond college and the successful completion of their degrees. It is also an opportunity to bring together everyone in the Krea community instrumental in upholding our unique vision and creating the environment in which our students grow and thrive.
This year we are privileged to have Dr Ram Ramaswamy, Honorary Professor, Department of Physics, IIT Delhi, as the Chief Guest at the ceremony.
The event will witness the graduation of the UG Cohort of School of Interwoven Arts and Sciences (SIAS) (2025), the 2-year MBA Cohort of IFMR Graduate School of Business (GSB) (2025), the 3-year L&T MBA Cohort of IFMR GSB (2025) and the PhD Cohort of IFMR GSB (2025).
Krea University’s Convocation 2025 will also witness the conferral of the Doctor of Science, honoris causa (D.Sc.), upon Dr Vivek Borkar, Emeritus Fellow, IIT Bombay, and the Doctor of Letters, honoris causa (D.Litt.), upon Dr Geetanjali Shree, author and novelist.

Dr Ram Ramaswamy,

Dr Ram Ramaswamy retired from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, in 2018, after teaching there for more than thirty years. He was a member of the faculty of the School of Physical Sciences as well as the School of Computational and Integrative Sciences.
Educated at Madras University, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, and Princeton University, Dr Ramaswamy earned his degrees in Chemistry, although his research interests have primarily been in various aspects of nonlinear science, statistical physics, and computational biology, in addition to theoretical chemistry.
Prior to joining JNU, he was at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in Mumbai. Between 2011 and 2015, he served as Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad. After retiring from JNU he has been Visiting Professor at IIT Delhi and is currently an Honorary Professor at IISER Berhampur.
Dr Ramaswamy has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications in physics, chemistry, and theoretical biology, and edited approximately 30 books and conference proceedings. He is the co-editor of Lilavati’s Daughters: The Women Scientists of India and A Girl’s Guide to a Life in Science (2008).
From 2016 to 2018, Dr Ramaswamy served as President of the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. He is also an elected Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) and the Indian National Science Academy (INSA).

Dr Vivek Borkar,

Dr Vivek Borkar was born in Mumbai in 1954 and completed his early education there, graduating with a B Tech (Electrical Engineering) from IIT Bombay in 1976. He subsequently earned an MS from Case Western Reserve University in 1977 and a PhD from the University of California at Berkeley in 1980.
After spending a year at the Technical University of Twente in the Netherlands, Dr Borkar returned to India and held positions at the TIFR Centre for Applicable Mathematics and the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru, as well as the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research and IIT Bombay in Mumbai, from where he retired in 2020.
Dr Borkar was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 1992 and later received the S N Bose and S S Bhatnagar Fellowships from the Government of India. He is a Fellow of various science and engineering academies in India, as well as The World Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (USA), and the American Mathematical Society.
His research interests include stochastic control and optimisation, along with associated algorithms.

Dr Geetanjali Shree,
Author and Novelist
Dr Geetanjali Shree is the winner of the 2022 International Booker Prize and the Warwick Prize for Women in Translation for her novel Tomb of Sand (Ret Samadhi in the Hindi original). The novel was also shortlisted for the Emile Guimet Prize. She is known for her innovative use of language and structure.
She has written four other novels: Mai (Mai: Silently Mother), Hamara Shahar Us Baras (Our City That Year), Tirohit (The Roof Beneath Their Feet), and Khali Jagah (Empty Space), as well as five collections of short stories. She writes essays and gives talks in both Hindi and English. Her work has been translated into many Indian and foreign languages.
In 1984, she completed her PhD at Maharaja Sayajirao University, Baroda, for her work on Munshi Premchand. She has received numerous awards for her creative and academic contributions to Hindi literature.
In collaboration with a Delhi-based group, Vivadi, of which she is a founding member, she has also worked on several theatre scripts. She is frequently invited to residencies, fellowships, lectures, seminars, and workshops around the world, and is currently the DAAD Writer-in-Residence in Berlin.
