We welcome you to India Research Insights – The Covid Impact, an insights roundtable propelled by powerful research outcomes. Delegates from various research agencies who have been tracking the Covid Impact on Mental Health, Migration, Gender, and Digital Media Consumption come together to deliver insightful narratives . India Research Insights – The Covid Impact is an India-Oxford Initiative (IndOx) inaugural extensive initiative in India in partnership with research centre LEAD at Krea University, under its collaboration with Krea University.  

The impact session will be led by a knowledge paper presentation on the impact on Mental Health by LEAD at Krea University.  Titled ‘The Covid-19 pandemic and impact on mental health services: The provider perspective‘, the study is is done in collaboration with SCARF India for the India-Oxford Initiative (IndOx). The research study will explore how mental health issues in the aftermath of the Covid-19 has been an area of increasing concern for public health, second only to the containment of the pandemic itself. The research study will explore how mental health issues in the aftermath of the Covid-19 has been an area of increasing concern for public health, second only to the containment of the pandemic itself. While the focus has largely been on the increasing levels of anxiety, depression, insomnia etc in the general population, as the pandemic has settled, there has been a shifting focus on the resilience of systems serving long term care needs including those of chronically mentally ill. There is a need to explore the impact on the consequences of the pandemic across the spectrum of care services. Particularly, from a service provider perspective on challenges faced through the pandemic by the response systems the resilience of the response systems in responding to the care of the severely mentally ill.

The session will also feature an overview of Peer-Support program at Krea which re-instates the University’s resolute commitment to student well-being.

India Migration Now (IMN) will be presenting a knowledge paper-Migrants During COVID-19: IMN Initiatives. The presentation will showcase insights from IMN being at the forefront of responding to the migrant crisis, through multiple avenues, including co-ordinating relief activities, collating SOS lists, pursuing media advocacy strategies, engaging with stakeholders, and conducting surveys and qualitative research into the conditions of migrants everywhere.

IWWAGE will be presenting a research study – Impact of COVID on Women Labour in Informal Sector. The presentation would be focussing on the challenges faced by women migrant workers in construction, factories and petty service segments as well as those faced by women’s small and informal enterprises. It would highlight women’s resilience and role in community leadership to prevent the pandemic through the SHGs. It would also focus on policy dimensions of what needs to be done to reduce the challenges and enable women to return to the labourforce.

Comscore will be presenting a research study- Impact of Covid 19 on Digital Media Consumption in India, exploring how 2020 has been a year like no other as India saw a complete lockdown for more than 2 months and then revived its daily activities amid the threat of the pandemic. Through some numbers and the insights behind them, it studies how the change in our lives and priorities reflected in the digital media consumption and what this change means for consumers and businesses.

India Research Insights – The Covid Impact marks the first round of strategic initiatives. Matched by the significant academic assets at both institutions and the ongoing ground-breaking projects at Krea in this space, these initiatives will find much needed acceleration. The collaboration aims to benefit multiple stakeholder groups including teaching faculty young researchers, and students from both institutions as well as think tanks and related organizations in India.
