Please find below a description of the course, Psychology of Gender & Sexuality:

This course focuses on investigating the psychological dimensions of gender and sexuality with the goal of comprehending the extraordinary subjectivity and diversity of these two aspects of the human experience. We will focus on the major psycho-social theories of gender and sexuality, and consider how gender and sexuality are constructed within a social context by using a combination of empirical data as well as experiential narratives. There will be an emphasis on cross-cultural understanding and understanding the psychology of gender and sexuality in India with reference to Western research. In particular, areas related to gender and sexuality that will be explored include the considerations of the (i) similarities and differences between sex, gender, and sexuality, (ii) psychological constitution of gender and psychology, (iii) gender as a performance, (iv) feminism and its relation to gender and sexual identifications, and (v) aggressions and microaggressions against expressions of gender and sexuality. Students will gain experience in reading how constructions of gender and sexuality unfold in literary texts, while simultaneously appreciating the essentially indeterminate nature of gender and sexuality.
