"As a fresher at Krea three years back, I was all set on doing Economics – one of the most popular majors at Krea. Taught in a holistic way and using the right technological tools – be it R-programme or just MS Excel - it was a very application-oriented approach that Krea’s Economics faculty has had since the beginning. As a subject that lies at the interface of quantitative methods and a strong theoretical base of knowledge, this helps develop an analytical mindset and adopt a more real-world outlook to in-class learning. The pedagogy is also very receptive to student needs, and our top-notch (and super friendly) faculty’s 24/7 support with any academic and professional concerns is a guarantee! Additionally, Krea’s “Econ” electives have something for students with diverse career plans – from courses on Public Policy to International Trade and Labour Economics! Besides the core Economics, the liberal arts advantage is my favourite here – since Economics is naturally an interwoven subject, the scope to study it with other disciplines like Business, the Humanities, and the Sciences just adds weight to the programme, and now as a graduate, I believe being an Economics major, Business minor and Politics concentration (which is just one of the many combinations you could do) truly makes me stand-out with the Krea edge".

Economics at Krea

At Krea, the study of Economics is not merely an academic pursuit, but a gateway to profound insights that extend far beyond the realm of numbers and graphs. It functions as a discerning lens, offering a nuanced exploration of economic activities and societal mechanisms. Step into a world where understanding goes beyond the surface, as we explore how these activities influence and are influenced by a society’s historical evolution, social & cultural norms, scientific advancements, and the intricate framework of political, legal, and economic institutions.

Anchored in its immediate context, Krea’s Economics Major takes a distinctive approach, delving into economic theory and models, often through the unique lens of India. This not only enhances the relevance and authenticity of economic studies to students’ lived experiences, but also cultivates analytical skills to analyse and comprehend familiar economic outcomes. The program aims to foster critical and analytical thinking about economic issues while concurrently training students to scrutinise the ethical implications of economic policies and strategies. Classroom learning is complemented by immersive experiences, internships, and research projects, creating a well-rounded education in Economics.

The Approach

Our curriculum design interweaves economic learning with insights from other social sciences, data analytics, and mathematics, offering a comprehensive and rigorous understanding of foundational economic concepts and methods. This is achieved by merging practical knowledge of economic phenomena with abstract conceptualisation through mathematical and computational models, all while maintaining an intuitive grasp of economic theory.

In our exploration of economics, we navigate individual as well as collective perspectives — examining markets, communities, societies, and generations. This multifaceted exploration unfolds through a triad of assessments — an examination of static conditions, a scrutiny of dynamic transformations over time, and an exploration of the evolutionary forces that weave the past into the fabric of the present and future.

Our pedagogical approach is a dynamic blend of class lectures, discussions, problem-solving exercises, and experimental methods. Field visits provide real-world context, while interdisciplinary lenses, including history, politics, sociology, technology, psychology, ecology, and mathematics, enrich the learning experience. Internships and the capstone thesis offer opportunities for in-depth exploration, guided by academic mentors who assist students in navigating theoretical frameworks and real-world challenges with precision and insight.
