Dr Lakshmi Narayanan is an Atmospheric and Space Physicist working with remote sensing measurements made from the Earth and space. His research focus is towards better understanding of the ionosphere and upper atmosphere. These regions are important for artificial satellites that are necessary for today’s tech-savvy society. He completed his college education in Coimbatore and obtained a PhD from the Indian Institute of Geomagnetism. During his PhD, he was introduced to the challenging field of upper atmosphere and ionosphere and decided to pursue a career in this field. Narayanan has worked in various academic institutions in India, Japan, Norway and the UK. His professional experiences across different departments highlight the interdisciplinary nature of his work. He has published more than 25 peer-reviewed articles in International journals of repute. One of his first authored articles got featured in the Journal of Geophysical Research Space Physics, and he has been awarded the outstanding reviewer award by the journal Advances in Space Research. He has received the Young Scientist award at the RCRS conference of the International Union of Radio Science, DST-INSPIRE Faculty award from Government of India, NICT Guest Researcher Award from Japan and FAPESP Fellowship from Brazil. He is serving as a Topic Editor for the journal Atmosphere and regularly reviews research articles for most of the leading journals in the field of Aeronomy. His other interests include geopolitics, history and anthropology.
