Vanya Shiel

Overview

Vanya Shiel is passionate about mental healthcare and education and wants to work to make both fields more adaptable and accessible, especially for people from marginalised communities. In her internship experience, she has worked in educational and clinical settings. She has worked with students to understand their school experience with academics and extracurricular activities, aiming to comprehend the gaps in the education system that prevent students from exploring a variety of career options. She has also interned in a clinical psychology department at a government hospital and critically observed the proceedings of the OPD, noting the rigid structures of psychometric testing which often make the procedure intimidating for patients. Through her experience, she aims to bring changes to make the process of accessing mental healthcare easier and with more room for subjectivity which helps patients understand their condition better.
