Rohit Prabu is a Jacob Burckhardt Doctoral Fellow at the Department of History, European University Institute (EUI) in Florence, Italy. He is researching the accounting and information systems of the English and Dutch East India Companies in the eighteenth century, with a focus on their information management practices and institutional differences from contemporary merchant networks in the Indian Ocean. His research seeks to determine whether the information systems of these companies as business corporations provided them with an organisational advantage in Indian Ocean trade. By prioritising information, his work aims to integrate two distinct bodies of literature on early modern companies: as business corporations and as company-states. His broader research interests include the history of the Indian Ocean, the history of capitalism, and business, accounting, and economic history. Before joining EUI, Rohit Prabu was part of the Cosmopolis Advanced Programme at Leiden University, The Netherlands, where he earned an MA in Global and Colonial History. His academic journey in history, particularly Indian Ocean history, began at Nalanda University, where he completed an MA in Historical Studies.
