Shankar Subramanian is an accomplished academic and innovative professional with a keen curiosity and diverse interests, returning to the university setting to share his extensive experience. Holding a Ph.D. in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Shankar brings a robust foundation in mathematically-oriented work, complemented by further coursework in Machine Learning.
His professional journey includes founding IndicVision (formerly PhotoGAUGE Inc.), where as the Chief Technology Officer, he led the development of photogrammetric measurement technology, resulting in seven US patents and significant industry certifications. He has also contributed to advanced projects at leading engineering and technology companies. Shankar served as an Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras, where he established a strong research program in Digital Image Correlation, authored top-tier publications, and deeply engaged in teaching and curriculum restructuring. He supervised and mentored numerous graduate and undergraduate students, many of whom went on to pursue Ph.D.s at leading institutions.
Beyond his professional endeavours, Shankar enjoys a variety of hobbies, including photography and stand-up comedy, and finds creative expression through pottery. He also dedicates time to supporting individuals in stressful situations through volunteering.
