Before joining the PhD programme at IFMR GSB, Hashim worked at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad from 2018 to 2021 as an Academic Associate. Prior to that he was working as an Academic Associate at Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode. 

His current area of research includes Health Economics, Labour Economics, Caste and Labour Migration, among others.

Caste and COVID-19: Exploring Variations in Health Expenditures among Different Caste Groups in India:The study explores the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on healthcare spending among different caste groups in India, revealing greater vulnerability and altered consumption patterns in these groups due to factors like limited access, affordability, and awareness, emphasising the need for a resilient healthcare system.
