Dr Sumit Mishra is an Assistant Professor of Economics at IFMR GSB. He received his PhD in Development Studies and MSc in Economics from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Development Research. His doctoral thesis looked investigated the issue of regional imbalances in Maharashtra, focusing on the constitutional mandate outlined in Article 371(2) and its failure to ameliorate regional differences within the state.

His current research examines three aspects of India’s economic development:

  • The relationship between caste diversity and access to public goods in villages
  • The association between segregation and public goods in cities
  • The movement from farm to non-farm occupations (structural transformation)
