The marketing faculty team is a blend of rich industry experience and strong academic credentials. It is due to this, that the foundational courses of first year are followed by the entire spectrum of marketing electives in the second year. As a testimony of this commitment to the marketing area, GSB has initiated an annual marketing conference – where leading CXOs and Head of Marketing Division from the industry are invited to talk on important and critical issues – to provide vital guidance to the students specializing in marketing.

Jayasankar Ramanathan is an Associate Professor of Marketing at IFMR GSB, Krea University. His research interests include Understanding Stock Market/Consumer Reactions to Marketing/Ethics Phenomena. His teaching interests include many subjects in Marketing such as Marketing Management, Brand Management, Marketing Research, and Marketing Ethics.
Jayasankar Ramanathan completed doctoral studies from the Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode. Before joining the doctoral program, he was employed as a Programmer Analyst at Cognizant Technology Solutions and was a member of the R&D team at Cognizant Academy. After completing the doctoral program, he was employed as a Visiting Assistant Professor and then as an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Management Indore and then as an Assistant Professor at Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam.
Jayasankar Ramanathan also holds a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Rajasthan.
Sathyanarayanan has more than twenty-three years of industry and academic experience, having worked in Organizations like BIM, CII, and CBS and European Union’s Global projects like Economic Cross-Cultural Programme (ECCP). Sathya Considers himself a motivator and enjoys being a catalyst to vibrant, young minds and motivating them towards excellence in their areas of strength.
Before joining IFMR GSB, Sathya worked with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) as the Head of Education Initiatives and was actively involved in setting up an Education Practice in the southern region to promote enhanced industry-institute interaction and also spearheaded the Industry Bridge project with IIT Madras. He was also involved in the conceptual foundation for a government-backed Incubator in Chennai.
Sathya has extensive experience in PG-level teaching in Marketing courses and corporate training through MDPs and consulting assignments in India and abroad – especially in Finland, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. He has trained executives from various companies like Toshiba, L&T, FLEX, CEAT Sri Lanka, Escorts, GATI, BHEL, Sutherland, Indian Railways, India Post, LIC etc. He was also running a consulting practice under the brand Purple Ring.
As an invited expert, Sathya effectively plays the role of a sounding board in the strategy and marketing meetings of several companies and also works on long-term consulting assignments.
Sathya is an invited Member of the CII Southern Region Core Group on higher education policy and a member of the Expert Committee of the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce. Sathya is also a Gold medalist in marketing and a University Grants Commission NET-JRF holder. A winner of London Business School’s Case Development Initiative in 2009 and the AIMA-ICRC case writing competition in 2022.
Sathya was instrumental in winning three awards for the Graduate School of Business. (1) Gold Award for the case study on IFMR’s research eco-system in the 7th Indian Management Conclave (IMC) held at IIM Ahmedabad (2) ASSOCHAM’s Award for Best Institute Serving Social Cause – CSR (3) MMA award for Managerial Excellence in the Education Institutions category.
He is also a recipient of the Dewang Mehta Award for Best Teacher in Marketing and the Impact Best Professor award. Sathya regularly blogs on marketing and other business issues.
Dr Sathya after Completing MBA from IFMR, have 19 rich years of Work experience of which 10 years he was in the Industry and 9 years in Academia. Initial career started with a Pharmaceutical Company as Sales representative. Later moved to aviation industry and later into banking sector.
Had a vibrant career growth, starting as a Sales Executive to Assistant Vice President. Served and been a part of every marketing department which included Sales, Training, Digital Marketing and Product strategy. Was heading the branches in bank, lead a holistic team of managers who were responsible for revenue and broadening market.
During 2010 moved to Great Lakes Institute of Management as lecturer for marketing as move towards the passion of becoming a teacher.
Dr Sathya, Completed his PhD in Digital Marketing in alliance with search and purchase behaviour of the consumer from the University, SCSVMV – Kanchipuram.
He is associated with than a dozen colleges in Chennai and outer as a visiting prof. and to name a few, IIT- Madras, LIBA and SRM.
He was awarded as the best teacher for the year 2016 by International Business Conference committee, Goa for the contribution towards teaching and research in the area of Marketing.
Been a committee chair in many occasions for to manage an event, conference, department and institution building exercises.
