Dr Abismrita Chakravarty
Dr Abismrita’s engagement with education spans teaching, research, and academic administration in India and the UK. Trained as an anthropologist of education, her research examines teaching practices, informal learning, skills, and embodied knowledge, with particular attention to learning through craft and apprenticeship.
She holds a BA and MA in Sociology from Lady Shri Ram College and the Delhi School of Economics, University of Delhi, and an MSc in International Education and Development from the University of Sussex. She recently completed her PhD at the University of Oxford.
Her professional experience includes teaching at an alternative school under the Krishnamurti Foundation of India as well as at the University of Oxford. She has conducted ethnographic research across diverse learning contexts, including schools, monasteries, and the craft sector. She has also held administrative roles at Ashoka University, where she worked within the Global Office and managed student mobility and summer programmes, and at Oxford, where she served as Junior Dean at St Hilda’s College, working closely on student welfare and disciplinary matters.
She is committed to bridging education theory and practice and is deeply invested in building thoughtful, inclusive, and collaborative spaces of learning.
