Krea India Programme (KIP)
Krea University is launching a global summer school that provides students an opportunity to engage deeply with India’s rich and complex past, its contemporary challenges and transformations, and the multitude of futures that lie ahead. It allows high school students to take intellectual risks, challenge themselves with college-level academics, and experience India’s culture and learning. Krea faculty will deliver the lectures and lead field visits as well as research projects. Industry leaders, bureaucrats, musicians, and other distinguished speakers will also deliver sessions to the summer school participants.
- A six-week residential summer school offering undergraduates a unique opportunity to experience India’s academic depth, cultural richness, and vibrant campus life, while earning university-level credits.
- 21 June to 1 August 2026
- Primarily designed for first or second-year undergraduate students interested in India studies or AP subjects, from the Indian diaspora (though other international students are also welcome to apply).

Academic Framework
Participants will take three academic modules, each comprising 45 contact hours (equivalent to 3 credits). Students must select at least one course from each of the following two fields:
Field I: Students must complete one compulsory course on Indian Civilization.
Field II: Students must complete one Indian Language course, choosing from the multiple languages on offer.
Field III: Students must complete an Independent Study or Research Project
Field I: Introduction to Indian Civilization
- India’s rich past, dynamic present, and multitude of futures
- Includes educational field visits to heritage sites, research institutions, and business/technology parks
- Lectures by distinguished guests, including industry leaders, bureaucrats, scholars, artists, and musicians
Field II: Indian Languages
- Options: Sanskrit, Telugu, or Tamil
- Levels: Elementary or Intermediate
- Note: Students must complete one Indian Language course, choosing from the multiple languages on offer. A minimum enrollment of five students per language is required
Field III: Independent Study or Research Project
- Faculty-mentored projects or independent study in chosen areas
- Options include lab-based research in the sciences or field/archive-based research in History, Anthropology, Indian Economy and Business, Politics and Public Policy, Ecology, and Environmental Sciences
Krea University will facilitate credit transfers and work toward obtaining necessary approvals from international accreditation bodies, enabling students to potentially earn college-level credits recognised by universities globally.
Accommodation and Facilities
- Participants will stay in Krea’s residences located on the University campus in Sri City, 70 km north of Chennai. Twin-sharing air-conditioned rooms with ensuite bathrooms are provided, and transportation will be arranged for programme-related activities.
- The campus includes tech-enabled classrooms, a trading floor, cutting-edge labs, spacious residential towers, student lounges, and sports facilities for badminton, basketball, cricket, football, and more. The cafeteria serves multi-cuisine meals, while the HT Parekh Library offers over 30,000 books and 60,000 e-journals.
- Sri City, a Special Economic Zone in the Tirupati district, hosts over 200 companies from 28 countries, including Kellogg’s, Isuzu, Mondelez, Pepsi, Panasonic, Daikin, Kimberly Clark, Alstom, Kobelco, Foxconn, and Danieli.
Cultural Immersion
- As a programme centred on cultural immersion and language learning, the experience extends beyond the classroom into the cultural landscape of South India. Through curated excursions, students engage with temple architecture, historic towns, classical art forms, and everyday cultural practices, while also encountering artisan traditions and regional craft economies.
- The region’s coastal ecology further enables exploration, with exposure to wetlands, bird habitats, and local communities. Visits may include sites such as Pulicat Lake, heritage centres like Mahabalipuram and Kanchipuram, and craft traditions in towns such as Srikalahasti, offering participants a deeper, place-based understanding of India’s cultural and environmental contexts.

Eligibility
The documents needed for registration include:
- A recent passport-sized photograph (PNG, JPEG, or JPG format)
- Copy of the applicant’s passport
- Academic transcripts
- Letter of recommendation (from a faculty)
- Personal statement (500–600 words).
Fee
- The programme fee is USD 5,000
The fee includes:
- Accommodation and meals
- Access to Krea’s campus facilities, including sports facilities and the university health centre
The fee does not cover:
- Transportation to and from the campus
- Health insurance or hospital deductibles
- Expenses related to individual research projects or project-related travel
